Back to Life....

....Back to reality, ha. Went back to school today, after a bomb weekend. In my women studies class, the dude i was sitting next to started belting out a song that I can't remember, and when I turned to look at him, he was like "What? I aint ashamed."...whoooo i was weak. We also watched video clips, including "U.N.I.T.Y" by the Queen (Who you callin a bitcchhh?) lmao...i was weak at my classmates reaction to the video. Priceless. Probably the highlights of an extremely boring day. That, and watching Superbad again.

I just saw Ye's new vid for "Welcome to Heartbreak" ft. Kid Cudi. & while I'm not really into the latest cd, or him, as of late; I've always been fond of this song, mainly for the lyrics, and I like the video for it.

Did you touch my drumset??

Just got done watching Step Brothers, that shit is super funny....im weak @ the one thats not Will Ferrel (lol) crying saying "I'm gonna throw up, I'm gonna throw up"....they're fools for that one. I planned to watch Zack & Miri make a porno afterwards, until my conservative parents said they wanted to watch "the other dvd" too, not knowing what they were getting themselves into. At that point, I took it upon myself to hand it over and quietly exit the room.

Ok, so on to this C. Brown & Rihanna business. There's so many rumors surrounding the story, that the only thing I know for sure is that Rihanna got Tina'd. I hear he knocked some of her teeth out?? wtf? Anyone else find it ironic, that a demo she did called "Emergency Room" emerged this week? LMFAO. Listen to it here.

I was watching some show called "17 Kids & counting"...& saw an episode where the eldest boy got married. Well if you think waiting till marriage to have sex is rare, wait till you hear this: This boy & his fiance had never even kissed!! Real talk, after he proposed they just hugged, & on his wedding day they were giving him tips on how to have his first kiss, after they say 'I do". I'm flabbergasted, lol.

P.S. Saw this belt in black w/ gold studs at the BCBG store in the Biltmore last week, and fell in love with it. But $128.00 for a belt?!!??! Helllllllll no.

Mayaeni

I remember when I first got a myspace, after my highschool graduation, Mayaeni was the first artist I discovered through it. Something about her seemed so fresh, and I was really feelin her music. Its described as acoustic/electric soul, with a touch of blues and rock, and she's this dope hippie chick. Well I lost track of her, and am so happy that I stumbled upon her again. Only problem is it seems like, she doesn't update her myspace like she did before, and all of the songs I liked are not up anymore =[....

I was able to find her bio over at cdbaby.com (they also have previews of all those songs, I once loved).

Mayaeni is the daughter of an American rock guitarist/songwriter and West African mother from Sierra Leone. The constant sound of her father’s guitar awakened a desire in Mayaeni to express herself in music. Her mother, a community organizer for Africans in Detroit, exposed her to rich experiences in the US and abroad. During her adolescent years, Mayaeni spent summers in England with her cousins and traveled to Sierra Leone. Mayaeni discovered a unique view of the world through her diversity and varied experiences. Within a month after graduating high school she relocated to New York City. From the first weekend she arrived, she boarded the subway with her fake ID so that she could sing at open mics at the Village Underground, Cafe Wha, Soul Cafe and Sugar Bar. Her soothing and sultry voice, striking beauty and positive spirit quickly created opportunities to work with some of NYC’s top producers and songwriters. However, as always, there were two sides to the story. As Mayaeni explains, “My networking and meeting 'important' people came faster than my development as an artist. I was so absorbed with the fact that I was working with top grammy winning writers and producers that I didn't pay attention to myself as an artist.”Mayaeni ultimately wrote and self produced her self titled CD in 2006. In March of 2007 her CD was released in Japan. To coincide with the release of the album, she did a two week tour of Tokyo and also signed an endorsement contract with GladNews clothing. When she returned, she continued to perform in NYC. During a performance at the Baggot Inn, she was joined on stage by Wyclef Jean, who added a new dimension to her song “Everyday.”In May of 2007, she caught the ear of multi-platinum producer/songwriter Toby Gad, who invited her to his studio. They felt an immediate chemistry and Toby co-wrote and produced four songs with her. Toby introduced Mayaeni to his brother, Jens Gad, who also is an internationally successful songwriter/producer. Within a short two week period, they wrote eight songs. Her EPK is available on you tube, as well as her myspace page, www.myspace.com/mayaenimusicMayaeni's own words sum up her mission - “I’m just interested in making good music, feel good music, the kind of music that's relatable and real to the point where it becomes therapy. I want people to listen to my music and not only relate, but let it encourage them. I may have come to NYC with a fake ID, but my experiences have led me to realize my identity. I couldn't say that when I began my journey.”

Jem and The Holograms

For some weird reason, I really like things from the 80's (idk if its cuz ima 80's baby or not)....but I like SOME of the fashion and music (ex: Vanity 6, Sade)....and the cartoons the most. I don't remember watching the show Jem when I was kid, but a couple months ago I started watching episdodes on youtube. The storyline compares to that of Hannah Montana, but way more edgier & rock n roll. Its revolves around Jem and her group the Holograms & their rivals The Misfits..although I'm for the Holograms, I like The Misfits too cuz their badass. Its cheesy as hell, but I find it entertaining, ha.

Here's a clip of the intro to this show. Classic, lol.

Sade

Helen Folasade Adu, OBE, (born 16 January 1959), better known as Sade (pronounced ʃɑːˈdeɪ, shah-DAY), is a British[1] singer-songwriter, composer, and record producer. She first achieved success in the 1980s as the frontwoman and lead vocalist of the popular Grammy Award winning English group Sade.

Sade was born in Ibadan, Ọyọ State, Nigeria. Her name, Folasade, means honour confers a crown.[2] Her parents, Bisi Adu, a Nigerian lecturer in economics of Yoruba background, and Anne Hayes, an English nurse, met in London and moved to west Africa. Later, when the marriage ran into difficulties, Anne returned to Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, England, taking four-year-old Sade and her older brother Banji to live with her parents. Living in Colchester, Essex, Sade read a good deal, developed an interest in fashion, acquired a taste for dancing and listened to soul artists like Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway, and Marvin Gaye.
In 1977, Sade arrived in London for a three-year course in fashion design at St. Martin's College.[3] On graduating, she set up a small fashion company, making men's clothes, in London's Chalk Farm, with a friend, Gioia Mellor.[3] She also found work as a photographic model.[citation needed]

In 1982, she joined Ray St. John's band Pride, which also included guitarist Stuart Matthewman, bassist Paul Denman, and drummer Paul Cooke. However, St. John left Pride shortly after, later resurfacing in the band Halo James, and Pride eventually petered out.
The other four members then formed a new group, the eponymous "Sade" and began to write their own material. Keyboardist Andrew Hale joined the band as a keyboard player in mid-1983, and in 1983 she signed a solo deal with Epic Records and sister imprint Portrait Records for the U.S. and Canada until the Portrait label folded in 1986. In 1985, Sade appeared in the film Absolute Beginners, directed by Julien Temple. She played singer Athene Duncannon, performing "Killer Blow," co-written by her with Simon Booth of soul/jazz band Working Week.

Anyone who really knows me, knows I am a Sade fanatic. Honestly, I think her music is classic & I will always love it. I remember listening my parents best of sade cd, when I was 13 and really liking the cd. I think my fascination with her is a mix of things: the fact that she is mixed with african and white like myself (AND President Obama! I don't run into people like this too often), her awesome looks, and her classy & laid back attitude.

If someone could get me a copy of this issue of her covering i-D I would love them forever =].

Men I Wouldn't Mind Creating Offspring With

As human beings our attractions to the opposite sex (or sometimes same sex: No judging over here) is undeniable....here are a couple celebrities that I don't mind looking at.

JENSEN ACKLES

There's only three shows i watch pretty religiously on tv: What not to wear, Jon & kate plus 8, and Supernatural. & This man is one of the stars of Supernatural. Its one of my fave shows because it has comedy, suspense, and my fave genre : horror. Theres not much else to say, but watch it & you will understand.

SHIA LABEOUF

Ok, yes I am aware that this man is not exactly heartthrob material, but for some reason I can't get enough of him. I think that the work he's done as an actor (post Even Stevens days-oh god), Eagle Eye, Disturbia, Transformers, have def shaped my crush on him. Many people will think I'm crazy for this one, but i dig his acting skills, that he seems like a regular dude, and the fact that he's a funny guy/bad boy.

WILL SMITH

I don't care if he's 40, he only gets better with age. I've loved him since fresh prince, and always will.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE

My love affair with Justin goes back 10 years, haha. I used to be obsessed w/ Nsync, and remember having a life-size poster of him.

TAYE DIGGS

Yumm. One of my favorite chocolate brothas =]. He has a sweet & intelligent aura to him.

SHEMAR MOORE

Possibly the sexiest of them all, but the lack of personality & the compromising rumors & pix of him naked at gay nude beach overseas push him to the bottom of the list.

HONORABLE MENTION: Barack Obama =]

Polyvore.com

Its a site where people can put together outfits they want and post them. Here's some outfits &/or items that caught my attention while browsing the site....

Spring time is near, well in AZ its basically here. At least it feels that way. Anyway, With the changing of the seasons, floral prints are guaranteed to be a major trend in both Spring & Summer. I'd say these dresses are pretty good examples of the trend (minus the accesories with the pink fit).

Don't tell me that it's over.

This is my pick for a casual outfit, that also satifies the trend.

There's also one more outfit that I'm obsessed with but for some reason it wont post, so see it here if you'd like.

Sidenote: Whats up with all of the celebrities people put in the background of their outfits? I saw some weird ones with edward from twilight, or LC from laguna beach, and nicole richie..idk weird....

The weekend is over and...

...it was nice because I got to see some friends that I haven't seen in a while.Friday night me & two of my girls went to some kickback at some my friend's, which I must say had some sick ass graffitti all over the brick fence surrounding the backyard. I'd say about like 80% of the people there, were people I went to highschool with. So it was ok, nothing exciting, but fun...until the cops came inside the house without knocking & began searching without probable cause or a warrant. When they came in with the flashlight I had the sudden urge to run & throw my bottle of drannkkkk lol, but THEN i remembered I'm 21 and I didn't drive, so everything I was doing was legal!

So Saturday afternoon, I was helping my bro with some financial aid stuff because my mom wanted me to. So she tells me go set up her coffee, and im like "ok, hold on while I finish". So she starts trippin, & going off at the mouth, like usual. Anyone out there with a habesha parent knows what I'm talking about (for those who dont know habesha=eritrean/ethiopian). After a while, I get fed up & just go start setting it up, but apparently I wasnt moving fast enough so she told me I was "moving slow like a crocodile dundee"...keep in mind she was extremely mad & said it in an accent. Woooow I was sooo weak, I told my dad and my bro & we were all on the floor laughing with tears in our eyes (which was actually getting her angrier) but I couldnt help it.

Fast forward to last night, where I went to an 18+ club (ugghhh) to celebrate a friend & her twin bros bday. It was packed but I wasn't feelin the scene at all, I'm so over that 18+ stuff. Last night also helped me remember, that although people can be fake & true friends are hard to find, they ARE out there. Shout out to Shelly for helping me out yesterday.

So that was the weekend...nothing super exciting, but enjoyable.

P.S. Here's the vid to Jazmine Sullivan's latest single "Lions and Tigers and Bears" (I know I'm a little late). I'm not too crazy about the video itself, but LOVE the song.

This is embarrassing...

Ok. I definitely cried while watching Smallville today. I remember watching this show all the time when I was in highschool, and now unemployment is ermm...lets say allowing me more leisure time. Yeahhh, thats sounds better good. I've been able to start this blog, watch tv including almost every episode of The Haunting on Discovery channel, download more music; you know during the time work used to occupy.

But back to Smallville, so i guess since i've been gone Lex Luthor turned evil, Lana was gone and came back, and more weird stuff. This episode Lex was like all half human, and he put a bomb of kryptonite on top of a building. So we all know supermans weakness blah blah blah, so he couldn't go near it to stop it. & Then Lex voice comes through & is like the only way to stop is if Lana drains it of its power (apparently she has powers now too....lol). If she drained it, the kryptonite would become apart of her, & her & clark would never be able to be near each other again. So it was one of those love vs. the lives of the people in the city dilemmas. So of course being the good people they are they choose to save the people, she does it, and when he gets near her he starts to basically die. It was soo sad, because he struggled to come up to her & kissed her one last time before he collapsed from the pain.It was way sadder on screen, i promise! Especially watching it back in the day & knowing how much he loved her, I was weepy. So so sad.

I know, lame. I am surprised of myself.

Thunderheist

I saw this duo over on perezhilton, & they have a single called "Jerk it". They're from canada, and the music is like a mix of house/electronica & hip-hop which is different. Check it out at their myspace.

Vintage Dress

This outfit: Sooooo dope!

Slumdog Millionaire

I watched this movie a month ago, & i'd say it is definitely worth 10 bucks! It's probably one of the best movies I've seen in a longggggg time (& i watch too many movies). At first glance, it might not seem like your "cup of tea"...buts its really good & suspenseful. I promise you won't regret watching it =].

Things Im loving this week.

This outfit on cupcakesandcashmere.com. I love how she combines the floral top (for a soft look) with the studded belt (for a rugged look).

Clinique's Moisture Surge Face Spray Thirsty Skin Relief: I got last week on a limb (with a gift card =]) and like how its moisturizes my face and how refreshing it is. It works great under or on top of your makeup.

These boots featured on The Fashion Bomb, as the steal of the day.

This brand, and its unique flair.

The trailer to one of the best action flicks on 2009 (my prediction) starring my husband!!

Who knew these two were friends??

The Louis Vuitton Don himself, Kanye West, and Jonah Hill (of Superbad, 40 Year Old Virgin, and Knocked Up fame) spotted leaving the gym in cali.

Chocolate High ft. Musiq Soulchild

Awesome collaboration by two of my fave artists, Enjoy =].

Are you a happy-camper?

As of now, I'm a junior in college and im STILL not sure if I like my major. I chose it because it's the one I like the best, but that still doesn't mean i would like or enjoy it. The problem is, I can't really think of something I would LOVE to do. I used to dream about being an illustrator when i was younger, until i realized i can't draw. Then, i wanted to be a marine biologist, until someone told me it was unrealistic, and hard to get a job; plus, my university doesn't have that as a major. I planned on being a lawyer up until a couple months ago, and now im getting cold feet. I think I've always just romanticized the image of a lawyer, when in actuality it is a stressful and difficult job. I just wish i could be interested in medicine, so i could become a doctor, because thats def job security in this crappy economy =/.

So right about now, i need some serious motivation.
